Qi learned acupuncture points from her mother Jin.
Jin was born in Beijing, China and during the culture revolution both of Jin's parents were taken prisoners. Jin herself a middle schooler at age 14, was sent to Yan'an (a rural countryside 200 miles from Terracotta Army), to be educated by peasants.
Jin was shocked by poverty in Yan'an. That was in the 1960s and still no electricity or waterpipes. The peasants were illiterate with no approach to modern medicines. The village doctor, a woman in her 80s is a noted expert of Traditional Chinese medicine and all the 1000s villagers were under her care.
Jin could read and write and so she was assisting the village doctor, meanwhile studying acupuncture with her for 5 years.
Many years later, Jin would teach her daughter Qi the acupuncture points she had learned. Qi would acupressure herself to relieve stomach pain or sore throat.
Now Qi has been practicing acupuncture in NYC for over a decade now. She thinks the most important role as a practitioner is patient educator. That is one day, even the patient no longer needs services from the practitioner, he/she should be able to manage the conditions himself with the knowledge provided.
